I was given an opportunity to run a talk show about love, I must say it was indeed a difficult task as everyone understand this subject according to his/her views based on different experiences. One question that continually remained in my mind was the fact that love never fails, at least according to 1 Corinthians 13 and if I was to explain love therefore my explanation must present a genuine thing so that I do not misguide those listen to me. I looked for practical examples in vain, as even within the church today it’s difficult to point to those characteristics of love, which actually must be vivid because Christ told us that the world will know that we are His because of Love.
The outcome of the whole experience left me with few words but this truth: That Love is Love but without God is a contract which is due to expire. It is impossible for us to love without God because that which we as human beings call love always fails but real love never fails. The bible tells us that God is Love and irrespective of what type of it, if there is any love it begins with Him. The perfect example of our failure is that as human being as long as we live its human nature that the flesh will also seek after the best interest of its own, it is a reality that we will remain in an agreement as long as it benefit us but the moment it does not we find a way of exiting or moving out of that agreement. The perfect example is the figures of divorce and heart breaks; if love never fails why the numbers of statistics are so high. If really love exit why does it seem like it is for the only selected few. I am convinced that if you look deeper there are fundamentals principles that we need to get right for our society to experience the kind of love, which to so many of us it is just a dream.
The ultimate expression of love is actually not in receiving but giving it, love is not love until you give it. Because God is love, we see Him giving His only begotten Son so that you and I may benefit life in eternity. Jesus Christ our Lord explains in this manner: There is no Greater love than this that a friend laid his life for a friend. According to my understanding there cannot be love without Giving, Just as the car is useless without wheels; your love will be of no purpose without the character of giving. The other thing as explained on 1 Corithians13 is that love does not seek for his/her own, this is critical because today it’s all about ourselves, life is based on personal development regardless of the cost or impact that we have on other people especially those close to us. So when we talk of love we talk sacrificing love, looking for the best interest of others.
With just these 2 issues you can begin to see that if we are to give any love to anybody at least we should ourselves be connected to the source, for if we are not at some stage we will fail. There is no river that will continually flow unless it is connected to the living fountain. Let us look within ourselves and see if indeed we are connected to Him (God) who is above all and everything, so that we can learn that love is not because you deserve it but the reason why you live. So let your love so shine that this world indeed believe that you are a Child of God as you give it even to those who you think don’t deserve it and forgive those who have done you wrong for love is the missing link resulting into unhealthy society.
